I’ve just returned from an incredible trip through Costa Rica, and my love for this country has been renewed. Covering four distinct regions, 12 resort visits and countless new experiences, the trip was a reminder of why Costa Rica is so special. Each region offers something unique, from the laid-back beaches of Santa Teresa to the lush rainforests of Arenal and the golden shores of Guanacaste.
Beyond standard hotel inspections, this journey was a deeper dive into the heart of Costa Rica. It was a chance to reconnect with our dedicated local partners, who hosted me with exceptional hospitality. Seeing their offices and meeting the teams who host our clients was a pleasure, and it underscored the meticulous care that goes into every trip.
A highlight of the trip was my stay at Casa Chameleon (pictured top and bottom in this section), where days were defined by stunning sunsets, warm ocean breezes and the effortless “pura vida” spirit of Costa Rica. Located on the northern Pacific coast with a vibrant, peaceful atmosphere, its location features miles of shoreline and mountain biking and hiking trails nearby. Guests enjoy complete privacy in individual, private pool villas and can explore calm, sandy beaches and abundant outdoor spaces.
A return to Nayara Tented Camp in the Volcano Arenal Region was another high point. As a stunning eco-luxury resort, Nayara offers a world-class experience, complete with natural thermal plunge pools, breathtaking rainforest views and personalized service. The adventure continued with a thrilling whitewater rafting excursion on the Río Balsa and a walk along the Mistico Hanging Bridges. For a more cultural experience, I joined Doña Mara in her kitchen for a private cooking class, learning to make tortillas and chilera.
The endless diversity of Costa Rica means there is always something new to discover, whether it’s your first visit or your fifth. From hidden waterfalls to new regions and unique ways to connect with nature, this country offers endless exploration. If Costa Rica isn’t on your travel list yet, it’s time to add it.
Travelers headed to Europe need to prepare for some significant changes to how non-European Union visitors (like Americans) pass in and out of more than 25 countries. Here are the top five changes to know about:
Expect to be fingerprinted. At an EU border point, your photo, fingerprints and passport details will be recorded. In some areas, you’ll be able to register at self-service kiosks. In the future, your biometrics will be verified against records in this system.
Most EU countries are included in these changes. The new system is being implemented in the following 29 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Your stay will be tracked. Non-EU citizens are permitted to stay 90 out of every 180 days in the European Union. This new system will track how long you stay to enforce the 90-day limit.
Staggered rollout. As of October 12, each country began using the new entry/exit system for at least one border crossing, with full rollout expected to be in place by April 2026.
Adios Passport stamps. Passport stamps will be eliminated in the next six months except in Cyprus, Iceland, Ireland and Liechtenstein.
